An estimated 3-5 million adults in UK have urinary incontinence and the NHS spends an estimated £80 million a year on Incontinence pads (NHS England, 2018). Often people who have urinary incontinence receive poor quality care that does not meet NICE standards. The National Audit of Continence Care found that older people received poorer quality of care than younger people.
This study day explains how illness, medication and ageing affect the ability to maintain continence. It outlines how to carry out continence assessments. It aims to enable those attending to work with the multidisciplinary team identify and treat stress incontinence, under-active bladder, overactive bladder, mixed and functional incontinence. It also provides guidance on managing urinary incontinence and maintaining healthy skin.
