Action Bladder Cancer UK (ABC UK) will open applications in November 2024 for its 2026 research funding programmes, supporting projects that improve the care, treatment, or diagnosis of bladder cancer.

Grants are offered under two schemes. The Improving Outcomes for Patients Programme (IOPP) provides awards of up to £25,000 for a wide range of applicants, including urologists, primary care professionals, cancer specialists and researchers. The ABC UK Nursing Grants Programme awards up to £10,000 for nurse-led projects, recognising the crucial role of specialist nurses in improving patient pathways and experience.

Both programmes support high-quality, stand-alone projects that deliver clear outcomes, whether data-led, clinical, or laboratory based. Projects may explore new approaches, share best practice, or serve as catalysts for further research, but must always focus on improving outcomes and experiences for people with bladder cancer.

The annual Andrew Meadows Award will also be made as part of the IOPP to the project judged most deserving by the panel, in memory of Andrew Meadows, who died from bladder cancer in 2018.

Jeannie Rigby, CEO of ABC UK, said: “Bladder cancer remains significantly underfunded compared to other cancers, despite its prevalence and poor survival outcomes. A key strand of our work is to encourage, contribute to and fund research. Through these grants we aim to support innovative projects that can identify priorities, improve treatment and care, and deliver real change for patients’ lives”.

Further information, including full guidelines and previous research projects supported by ABC UK can be found on the ABC UK website. Applications open in November 2025 and close on 15 March 2026.
