BAUN welcomes applications for the 2026 Awards – criteria and further information for each award are outlined below. Application for all awards is via the BAUN 2026 Conference website – link coming soon.

Rachel Leaver Award:
A 500-word supporting statement describing the achievements of the nominees who have significantly influenced and contributed towards the evolution of British urology nursing. Clear articulation of the following elements to be included in the statement:

  • How the individual has contributed towards the development of British urology nursing and BAUN.
  • Specific details of achievements and how these have been implemented or shared.
  • The impact of achievements.
  • Referenced research/articles published.
  • Educational contribution.

Objectives:

  • To recognise those individuals who have significantly influenced and contributed towards the evolution of British urology nursing.
  • To preserve those values demonstrated by Rachel in her passion for education, research and publication within urological nursing.
  • Applications to be invited or individuals awarded by demonstrated achievements without application.
  • Award committee to review and decide on successful recipient with agreement from BAUN Trustees.
  • This award is only bestowed in cases of truly outstanding service. Therefore, there is no imperative for the award to be conferred every year, and it may be withheld in the absence of an appropriate recipient.

Bruce Turner Award:

  • Ideally, applicants will be urological nurses at the start of their urological career although applications will also be considered from more experienced urological nurses.
  • The successful applicant will be selected through an application form and will be judged on their reasons for wishing to attend conference and their educational objectives.
  • Applicants will be FULL BAUN members at the time of application and must be available to attend conference the year of application.

The Bruce Turner Award is open for nominations, and the winner is judged by the BAUN Trustees and Awards group. The prize includes a free delegate place at conference including travel, accommodation and an awards dinner ticket. The winner is invited to join one face to face Trustee meeting including travel and accommodation. They will also receive mentorship for the year from one of the BAUN Trustees.

Novice Oral Presenter Award:
If you submit an abstract and are selected to present your findings at BAUN Annual Conference, you will be contacted by email to confirm details of your session and what will be involved. This award is for BAUN members only so the lead author must be a BAUN member. The winner will win a free place at the following year's BAUN Annual Conference.

Sarah Henderson Poster Award:
Showcase your impact in urological nursing by applying for this prestigious award. The winner will be celebrated at the Annual Awards Dinner and receive a complimentary place at next year’s BAUN Annual Conference. This award is for BAUN members only, so the lead author must be a BAUN member. The winner of the award will be announced and presented during the BAUN Annual Awards dinner. You are encouraged to attend the awards dinner, however, if this is not possible, please nominate someone to accept on your behalf. There will be no feedback to poster submitters or presenters following judging.
The poster size must be portrait and A0 in size (1189 x 841mm).

  • Font must be legible from a distance of 3m away (font size 90-150 bold for the title and 26-32 for the main body).
  • The poster theme must be relevant to urological nursing.
  • The lead author must be a nurse and a FULL BAUN member.
  • The content must not have been published or presented at an international congress at the time of submission.
  • The poster content should be in the form of an abstract rather than an essay.
  • Points and conclusions must be clear and concise.
  • The judges are looking for innovative or original issues/projects.
  • Any relevant conflicts of interest must be declared on the poster.

The People’s Choice Award:
This award is a special recognition for nurses who have significantly improved the lives of individuals with prostate cancer. It’s a chance for patients and their families to say “thank you” to nurses who have provided exceptional care. If you are a nurse who has made a difference in the lives of prostate cancer patients, encourage your patients to nominate you. Any nurse who is working within the NHS and has made a positive impact on prostate cancer patients’ care is eligible. Nominations come from patients and their families who wish to acknowledge a nurse’s extraordinary dedication.
The winning nurse will receive a £1,000 bursary. This prize can be used for:

  • Improving their prostate cancer knowledge through professional development.
  • Training opportunities for their team.
  • Enhancing patient experience.

Urology Team of the Year Award:
This award is designed to honour a urology team who demonstrate and promote best practice and, or innovative pathway development in the field of Urology. Teams may be nominated or they may self-nominate. The Urology Team of the Year Award will be recognised for the contributions of a team in the field of Urology. The winner of the award will be a team who have demonstrated exceptional service development and improvement to patient care and experience. The winning team will be awarded with a trophy and certificate.
A 300-500 word supporting statement describing the team, their role and their commitment to improving the patient experience. The application should contain as much supportive evidence as possible.

  1. Give a clear overview of the team and the issues leading to the need for change. Outline the process that the team has undergone, highlighting the impact that the team has had either through implementing best practice or service/pathway redesign.
  2. Demonstrate this using supporting data to highlight improvements. For example: decreased waiting times, improved patient satisfaction/outcomes; how the outcomes were disseminated across the organisation.

In addition:

  • Send a supporting letter signed by a senior member of the nominee’s team. This can be emailed or posted after the submission.
  • You can also choose to supply other supporting information not outlined above which you feel adds to the application (e.g. supporting letter from patient).

Each entry criteria is scored between 1 and 10 with a score of 10 being the highest and outstanding achievement.

Urology Nurse of the Year Award:

  1. This award is designed to honour a urology nurse who provides or supervises direct patient care.
  2. Candidates may be nominated by a member of their urology team (e.g. nursing or allied health professional colleagues, urologist colleagues or by hospital management).
  3. Or candidates may nominate themselves.

Each application shall be composed of:

  • Completed application form.
  • Curriculum vitae of the nominee.
  • A letter of support from a senior member of the nominee’s team.
  • Further supporting evidence.
