Men Only was established to offer a platform for men to openly discuss issues important to them. This platform provides a safe space for open dialogue and exploration of topics that are frequently marginalised in mainstream conversations. The platform aims to give a voice to men’s experiences, fostering understanding and positive change.
Jacqueline McKie, founder of Men Only explains: “Over 55,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023, of which 12,000 succumbed to this devastating disease. Now more than ever, it is imperative that men understand the treatment options and potential side-effects (incontinence and erectile dysfunction, as examples) in order to make an informed choice. Highlighted in a meeting I had with the Men’s Cancer Group at the Maggie's Centre in Glasgow was the recurring comments of men, once a cancer diagnosis was given, of feeling overwhelmed by medical terminology and the pressure they felt to make a quick decision to start treatment.”
Professor Hashim Ahmed, Imperial College, stated that the two biggest mistakes men make regarding prostate cancer are to, "not think about it and ignore the whole debate" or "jump straight into a PSA test before considering the pros and cons".
The pros and cons are honestly discussed, in depth, in conversation, with Professor Robert Jones, Professor of Clinical Cancer Research at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, and two prostate cancer survivors, Tony Burns and Alan Keegan. Watch the podcast and listen to what they have to say and what men want to talk about.
