Tackle Prostate Cancer is a small national charity with a big reach. We exist to ensure that people living with and affected by prostate cancer are not left to navigate diagnosis, treatment decisions and life after treatment on their own.
At the heart of our work is our network of almost 150 peer support groups, the vast majority of which are volunteer led. These groups operate across the UK and provide safe, trusted spaces where people can share experiences, ask questions, and learn from others who have been through similar journeys. For many, this peer connection becomes a vital complement to clinical care, offering reassurance, perspective and practical insight that can be hard to find elsewhere.

Alongside supporting and strengthening our peer support network, we work nationally to improve health literacy, reduce isolation and ensure lived experience informs policy, services and practice. We collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, researchers and partner organisations, recognising that meaningful impact happens when clinical expertise and lived experience sit side by side.
A key focus of our current work is Make Sense of It, a national pilot programme funded by an equity grant generously co-funded by Prostate Cancer UK and Movember. The programme provides structured, one-to-one peer support for people who are newly diagnosed or facing complex treatment decisions. Trained peer coaches, themselves living with or affected by prostate cancer will offer non-directive, balanced support to help individuals prepare for consultations, understand their options, and feel more confident asking questions. The aim is not to replace clinical conversations, but to enhance them, supporting shared decision-making and helping to reduce treatment regret.
Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in the success of Make Sense of It. Simple awareness and signposting can make a profound difference, particularly at the point of diagnosis or treatment discussion.
We are keen to work with urology teams who want to understand the programme better or explore how it could complement their service.
